What to Expect When Your Pet Is Hospitalised
When your pet needs to stay in hospital, you want to know how they’ll spend their day, whether you can visit and how you’ll hear about their progress.
Here’s what you can expect during their stay at Dr. Vet Animal Hospital.
Why Can’t My Pet Recover at Home?
Your pet may need ongoing treatment or checks that cannot be provided at home. This can happen after surgery, during an illness or following an emergency.
The doctor will explain why admission is recommended. Your pet’s progress will determine how long they need to stay.
What Happens During Their Stay?
Depending on their condition, your pet may receive medication, fluids, pain relief or further tests. The team also checks their appetite, comfort and response to treatment.
Tell us what they are usually like. Knowing that your cat dislikes being handled or your dog prefers their food a certain way can help during their stay.
Will I Get Updates?
Our customer service team sends two updates each day, with a photo or video when possible.
The doctor will call directly if there is a significant change, a result to discuss or a decision about treatment.
Can I Visit or Bring Their Blanket?
Visits are usually possible between 4:00 and 6:00 PM.
Please check with the team before coming, as your pet’s condition may affect whether a visit is suitable.
You can also ask about bringing familiar food, a blanket or a toy. These need to be suitable for their treatment.
What Happens at Discharge?
Before your pet leaves, the team will explain medication, feeding, rest and follow-up appointments. You will also be told which signs need medical attention.
If you have questions during their stay or after discharge, contact Dr. Vet Animal Hospital.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my pet need to stay in hospital?
It depends on their condition and response to treatment. The doctor will review their progress and let you know when they are ready to leave.
How often will I receive updates?
Our customer service team sends two updates daily, with a photo or video when possible. The doctor will call about significant medical changes or treatment decisions.
Can I visit my pet?
Visits are usually possible between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Confirm with the team first, as treatment or a contagious illness may mean visits are restricted.
Can I bring their usual food or a favourite blanket?
Check with the team before bringing anything. Your pet may need a specific diet, and familiar items must be suitable for their condition.
Does discharge mean my pet has fully recovered?
Not always. They may be ready to continue recovering at home but still need medication, rest or follow-up appointments. The team will explain what to do next.
